Crowd Sourcing the Ottawa Cycling Map

Reading Time: 2 minutes

After the long weekend it is now back to work for bike advocacy. The City of Ottawa maintains a map with different layers on line. The existing cycling facilities layer was recently updated – and can now be viewed on GeoOttawa- this is publicly accessible information.

Please take some time to look over whatever part of the city you are most familiar with- and send in any changes to Melody (Melody.Andrews@ottawa.ca)  by email. If your suggestion is complicated- please include a screen shot. Remember the map should show what’s out there today—for example the O-Train pathway is on the map since it was opened early 2013.

The city uses this data as a baseline for the Ottawa Cycling Plan 2013 update- so please review as soon as possible. Thanks very much for your help with this!

Error on Merivale

I submitted the following screen grab to Melody, as the path running along Merivale is not a bike path or MUP. It is some kind of memorial path on the Farm, financed by private donors. In this particular case, two pedestrian pathways run side by side ( along Merivale, the other one 20 meters further parallel along the side walk.) With traffic as it is, it doesn’t come as surprise that people choose the path through the farm for worry free cycling though. The RCMP is in charge of maintaining law and order on the Farm, but I don’t recall ever seeing a cruiser there. That is not a reason to cycle there though.

The path east of Merivale is not a bike path, so I submitted a request to remove this particular line.

  1. Great Information. Thanks. I know there’s a site now where you can make comments and suggested improvements on the cycling network. But, I can’t seem to find that site. Do you know where it is?
