A cycling visit to the Governor General

This is a great 20 km tour bringing you to Rideau Hall, the home of the Governor General who is the representative of the King of England in Canada. You’ll also pass the Rideau Falls.

You can bike right along the Ottawa River and stop at the Boat House and the Aviation Museum. Eventually, you’ll bike through a light industrial area to get to the pathways again. Careful when you cross the bridge and a busy intersection at St. Laurent Blvd and highway off ramps.

Also included are an old railway bridge across the Rideau River and a short ride along the Rideau River before you cross the river again via the popular Adawe pedestrian bridge. With lots of stops and mostly on pathways, this can easily take the bigger part of a day, despite only being 20 km.

There are free tours at the Rideau Hall, check the website in advance. The many trees on the property are often planted by dignitaries and royalty from other countries. Check them out with the kids. The Aviation museum is really great for kids too. Stop for coffee and store baked goodies in New Edinburgh at Union Cafe at Union St. and Crighton St.
